Select Your Ideal Strand
When it comes to necklaces, there are a myriad of options for jewelry lovers to choose. Here at Holly Yashi, we have a little bit of everything, so we've put together this guide to make your necklace shopping experience as fun and rewarding as possible. Read on to get started and find your ideal strand!
"Jewelry is wearable art. It's an expression of self that tells a story."
Where to start
Complement the clothes you already have. Look in your closet and determine which type of necklines you wear frequently. This will make it easier to figure out what length of necklaces you need to complement clothes you already have.
High necklines are complemented best by long necklaces because they add vertical lines to the ensemble. However, in most cases, necklaces should fit inside the shape of your clothing. For instance, a V-neck sweater might be paired with a pendant. With a scooping neckline, almost any necklace will work well, and every Holly Yashi collection has many choices available.
Collared shirts and blouses can be accented best with necklace styles often referred to as collars -- necklaces around 16 inches.
Flatter longer necklines with chokers and short pendant necklaces. Many necklaces in the Modern Elegance and Inspired by Nature collections are perfect to pair with this type of apparel and are between 16 and 18 inches in length.
Refer to this list for a more detailed approach to a perfectly accessorized look.
Turtle necks: best with longer necklaces
Crew necks: best with short necklaces such as ‘collar’ or bib styles
Scoop necks: fill in the space with multiple strands of beads or larger scale pendants
Strapless: look great with chokers or short pendants, leaving bare your lovely decolletage
Square necks: look for pendants with an angular finish to harmonize with the angular neckline
Asymmetric necklines: look for necklaces that are not symmetrical; a necklace that has its own asymmetry can work. Alternatively, a long string of different sized and shaped beads can also work well.
Halter necks: these create a narrow V neck – so look for a narrow pendant with a sharper end
V-neck: ideally a necklace that matches the shape of the V – depending if it’s a wider or narrower V-neck.
Collared shirt (button down): there isn’t much space for anything too wide, so a choker style works if you have a long neck; if not, choose a slimmer pendant that sits above the last open button.
Boat neck: a long string or two of beads is ideal for this neckline.
Cowl neck: this neckline is already detailed and has volume, so either a short and small pendant or a pair of feature earrings instead of a necklace.
Sweetheart: a curved necklace that has width that will balance the open decolletage of this neckline.
A pendant is a single ornament which hangs suspended in the middle of a chain or cord. They can even be threaded onto a beaded strand for a more colorful look. Pendants are versatile, look great with dresses or jeans, and can be worn at any time during the day or night. Because pendants are generally the only hanging piece of adornment on any one necklace, they are great eye-catching pieces and depending on size, can be subtle or bold statements.

beaded & strand necklaces
Strands are necklaces strung together with beading, jewels, and/or pearls to create a continuous appearance. Holly Yashi even creates a unique look using our signature niobium metal and linking it together to make a metal strand, which you can see in the Timeless Romance collection. Strands also come in a wide variety; a simple strand of pearls can be worn at the office or on the weekend, while longer and more bedazzled strands are great for glitzing up your evening ensemble.

Charm necklaces are composed of one or several layers of chain and feature dainty medallions of cutout metal and beaded baubles. Charm necklaces are wonderful for layering and go with just about any outfit as the charms and colors themselves are often mixed.
